Frequency of Thyroid Lesions in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Peshawar

Objective: To determine the frequency spectrum of all thyroid lesions in terms histopathological patterns presented to Pathology Department Combined Military Hospital Peshawar. Methodology: A retrospective observational study was conducted at Hospital, Peshawar, from September 2015 December 2020. total 235 thyroidectomy specimens, over a period 5 years, were included period. Information collected on age, gender, clinical presentation, and diagnosis. Results: cases studied five which 188 (80%) females 47 (20%) males, with male female ratio 1:4. The patients’ ages ranged 14 years 85 mean age 41 relative peak incidence seen 21 40 age. Total 193 (82.1%) belonged non-neoplastic category out adenomatous colloid goiter most common (180 cases, 93.3%). neoplastic (total 42) 17.9% benign i.e. adenoma comprised 20 (47.7%) malignant 22 (52.3%). Among papillary carcinoma (16 cases) comprising 73% lesions. Conclusion: Thyroid are more females, second third decades. common, being prevalent. In lesions, follicular constitutes main lesion group neoplasms among neoplasms.
